DIY spring bird feeders

DIY spring bird feeders

So spring has sprung and we can all feel that lovely spring breeze and hear the birds chirping away so what better then to get our DIY on with the kids and have some beautiful wild life to look at with this fabulous bird feeder. We have two options for your DIY, one for the beginner and one for the little more advanced DIY-er.

To make our super easy up-cycled toilet role feeder you will need:

  • - A empty and clean toilet roll
  • - Ribbon
  • - Peanut butter
  • - A butter knife
  • - Bird seed
  • - Plate

And here is what we do:

  1. Spread the bird seed onto the plate enough to roll the toilet paper role in
  2. You will need to use the butter knife to spread the peanut butter all over the toilet roll
  3. Roll the peanut buttered toilet roll in the bird seed covering completely
  4. Thread the ribbon through the toilet roll
  5. Tie up in desired area and wait for birds

Now if that sounded a little too simple this method might be for you, this is our Pumpkin bird feeder

What you will need:

  • A medium sized pumpkin
  • Drill
  • String
  • 30 cm long twig/piece of dowel
  • Bird seed

And here is what we do:

  1. Cut the pumpkin in half and scoop out the inside seeds be sure to leave a good edge to the pumpkin so make sure to leave 2-3 cm of edge (*note this can be made into 2 bird feeders by doubling the other equipment for the other half of the pumpkin)
  2. Drill 4 holes parallel to each other
  3. Thread the string through each parallel hole and secure and the base
  4. Drill holes to match the thickness of the twigs or dowel  then push the twig or dowel through the holes straight through
  5. Fill the pumpkin with bird seed and hang

So there we have it the perfect DIY to attract our feathered friends this spring and don’t forget to link your bird feeders to our Facebook
