Top 5 Icebreaker’s and kids games

1. Cinderella’s Shoe
This is an icebreaker that is great for all ages and lasts about 15 minutes. Have the group find a partner and have the pair sit next to one another in a circle. Now that everybody has a partner, take blindfolds and blindfold one of the partners in each pair. Once at least one person per pair is blindfolded, tell the non-blindfolded person to take off one shoe and throw it in the middle of the circle. When a leader says go, all the blindfolded people have to go to the middle and bring back the right shoe that belongs to their partner. Their partner can scream and yell from their seats, but cannot touch them or physically guide them to their shoe. The blindfolded person must bring back the right shoe in order for the game to be stopped and Cinderella to live happily ever after.

2. Do you love your neighbor?
Here’s an icebreaker that they can play as a group. With chairs formed in a circle, make sure everyone has a chair, you will then take away one chair and you can decide who will be the person that’s out. The person that is out will go up to another person, and have that person stand up and they will switch places (person out now has that persons chair) still remain standing and face to face person that was out, asks “do you love your neighbor” ? New person out says Yes especially those who have eyebrows! Then all must leave their seats and can only run to the chair open across from them, they may not move to the seat that is to either side of them. The group has only three chances to say no, to the question “do you love your neighbor”? When saying no, all must leave their seats and find another seat. Example for other replies to do you love your neighbor are, especially those who play basketball, those who are wearing T-shirts, or the color of clothing etc… If no is replied the fourth time, the game is over. It gets pretty loud, but the teenagers love this game.

3. Find your twin
This game is played in rounds, and in each round members of the group need to find their twin and ask 3 or 4 set questions. The leader of the activity gives direction for how each person is to find their twin in each round ie. Round 1- find someone the same height as you, round 2- find someone who is in the same year at school, round 3- find someone who like the same type of music, etc. When everybody has found their twin they ask each other the 3 or 4 set questions (ie. What’s your name? How would you spend your last $10.00? What’s the best thing about youth group? Etc.)

4. Guess who

Have all the kids sit down on the floor as a group. Select one person to be the first volunteer. Explain the game: The volunteer will leave the room, and you will hand an object to a person sitting down. The volunteer will come back in and try to guess who has the object through the buzzing sounds. The louder the buzzing, the closer the person with the object is. The kids’ buzzing will hint to the volunteer where the object is located. Ask the volunteer to leave the room. Hand the object to one of the kids sitting down. The person with the object will need to hide it in his/her hand. Retrieve the volunteer. The volunteer has to guess who the person with the object is. Once he or she finds the hidden object, you can select another volunteer to leave the room.

5. Pass the parcel
Sit the children in a circle and give the present to the birthday child. Start the music. The children pass the parcel around the circle to the child on their left as long as the music continues. When it stops, the child holding the parcel undoes one layer or wrapping (and, if you have included them, takes a treat). The final layer will open to reveal the prize.

Homemade, Healthful and Yummy!

Fun and healthy kid’s snack ideas

Here are some tips for a healthful and fun party, whether you enjoy preparing the treats yourself, prefer to order in or like getting the kids involved.
Homemade, Healthful and Yummy!

Healthy eating means eating a wide variety of nutritious foods from all of the food groups. These foods contain lots of vitamins, minerals and fiber. Eating a wide variety of foods from all food groups will help you grow.

Some foods contain too much sugar or fat and not many vitamins or minerals. These are foods we should only eat sometimes.

Kid’s birthday parties are often synonymous with pizza, soft drinks, candy and of course cake. While these foods can fit into a healthful diet as occasional treats, you can provide more nutritious options for your child’s next party without losing the fun factor. Children go to many more parties and activities than we used to, and treats have become a big part of their life.

One great idea is to make a sandwich platter. Think turkey, nut butters, even veggie and avocado sandwiches. For added fun we suggest using cookie cutters to create shapes, or cut up a wrap sandwich to make pinwheels.

When it comes to side dishes try:

Baked sweet potato strips
Fruit smoothies in small cups
Whole-wheat pita triangles with hummus
Baked tortilla chips with bean dip and salsa
Watermelon slices
Baby carrots and low-fat ranch dip
Kids love creating, why not try a Do-it-yourself personal pizza station, where kids can create their own pizzas using whole-wheat English muffins or pita bread for crust. Top with low-sodium tomato sauce and fresh veggies.

Dip it. Pair cherry tomatoes or cucumber slices with your child’s favorite dip. Try hummus, applesauce, or salsa.healthy snacks for kids during school
Spread it. Pair grapes or apple slices with nut butter, such as almond or peanut butter
Cube it. Children love finger foods so try cubing honeydew, sweet potato, or watermelon for easy snacking.
Skew it. Make fun snack kabobs by skewing cubes of low fat cheese with grapes on pretzels sticks.
Mix it. Create a trail mix by combining different nuts and seeds with dried fruit.

Try almonds, sunflower seeds, and dried apricots
Make-your-own fruit kabobs with chocolate “fondue” for dipping. You can save yourself the hassle by using dark chocolate chips and melting them.

Swapping the candy for whole-grain popcorn with a “flavor station”; we suggest garlic seasoning, hot sauce and even peanut butter, they’re big hits on air-popped popcorn!

There’s no need to lose the cake. Instead we suggest mini-cupcakes with light frosting to trim down portion size. You can also try kids-do-it-yourself layered yogurt parfaits with berries, nuts and whole-grain cereal.

Take away goodie bags are a special take home treat and we at glitter pop up parties love them! Some healthy alternatives include:
Single serving bags of corn nuts
Sugar-free gum
Fruit cups in their own juice or unsweetened applesauce
Single serving boxes of lightly sweetened whole-grain cereal
Snack size shelf stable fat-free pudding

We hope you liked our fun party food ideas!
